A m e l i a Amelia and her friends are back and ready to learn with a fun-filled, educational lineup of new 2018 titles. This season, Schiffer Kids is excited to expand our board book offering. Leading the way is the dynamic duo Fox and Goat! Join these zany detectives as they work to solve clever mysteries that teach early concepts in The Missing Bouncy Ball and The Lost Race Car (pg. 2) . Then head off to the symphony orchestra in What Do You Hear? (pg. 8). Be sure you have your listening ears on as the billy-goat conductor and other animal musicians make distinctive sounds with their instruments. Is that hip giraffe playing an oboe? Next are three lift-the-flap books celebrating Amelia’s animal friends, including two more innovative Think! books from Karen S. Robbins (pg. 4) that teach what animals you’ll find on the farm and zoo, and the long-awaited Chadwick & Friends book from Priscilla Cummings. Chadwick, our beloved character from the Chesapeake Bay, is back and ready to engage and delight a whole new generation! Schiffer Kids strongly believes that learning about and undestanding emotions is important for all STEAM students. With that in mind, Amelia is eager to use what she knows about the environment in a creative new approach to managing emotions in the Emotional Ecology series (pg. 16) from psychologists Maria Mercè Conangla and Jaume Soler. After exploring your emotions, take a break and play a bit with Amelia’s new friends Peanut & Bosco (pg. 11) and learn the importance of not being a bully with one bossy pirate (pg. 15) and a funny little good egg (pg. 14)! Aspiring paleontologists will dig into The 50 State Fossils (pg. 18), which could help get to the root of a question posed by another new title this season . . . did dinosaurs have dentists? (pg. 10). Continue to exercise your brain while developing small motor skills and hand-eye coordination using clay and cloth in the 5-Step Handicrafts for Kids series (pg. 12), and join Timothy Young as he again delights future cartoonists with more awesomely wild, wacky, and funny animals (pg. 20). Our long tradition of quirky and quality picture books continues with a laugh-out-loud follow up to The Angry Little Puffin that asks the very important question: Would you give that puffin a muffin? (pg. 20). And you won’t want to miss the second edition of the much loved Change the World Before Bedtime (pg. 9), which has been enhanced with additional spreads and a parent/ teacher resource section that encourages our Schiffer Kids to keep changing the world! Finally, Amelia rounds out her adventures by immersing herself in four middle-grade readers (pgs. 22–25), including the second book from Deborah Kalb in the President and Me series about John Adams, a spunky new character from Foreword INDIE award-winning author Nancy Viau, and a look into two very different worlds by debut Schiffer Kids authors, Donna J. Stoltzfus and Colleen Rowan Kosinski, in Captive and A Promise Stitched in Time . So, are you ready for another exciting year of learning with Amelia and her friends? WE ARE!
