Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. (Atglen, PA) is a family-owned publisher with over 5,700 titles in print and a broad catalog of books, including non-fiction books on art, decorative arts, architecture, design, antiques, military history, maritime, photography, fashion, house and garden, food, history, crafts, woodworking, regional, and more. Located on the Schiffer Book Farm near the Chester/Lancaster county line, we are two miles from the Parkesburg station on Amtrak's Keystone Line.

 

                             

Publicist

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Publicist is responsible for the development and execution of publicity campaigns for front list titles as well as serves as primary media contact for backlist media requests. This position requires a highly motivated candidate with a results-driven work ethic and excellent written and verbal communication skills. They should be able to work independently as well as collaboratively across departments, operate with sense of urgency regarding deadlines and deliverables, and be comfortable managing the multiple hats that comes from working in a small press.

    As the Publicist, you will be responsible for:

    • Developing and implementing successful publicity campaigns for designated front list titles, including creating targeted pitches for key titles and managing the distribution of review copies (both print and digital)
    • Write and distribute press and promotional materials, including pitch and galley letters, press releases, etc. customizing as needed for the title’s success
    • Develop and maintain relationships with national and regional media contacts, bloggers, and other influencers, including promptly responding to media requests and follow-up as needed on review copy requests
    • Remain current on trends and actively seeking out and researching  new media outlets
    • Brainstorm and proactively seek new and creative ways to publicize titles
    • Work with authors to arrange special events and serve as in-house resource for author publicity questions, help coach authors prior to interviews and other media questions as needed
    • Work closely with editorial, acquisitions, marketing, and sales  as well as outside vendors and publicity firms as needed
    • Coordinating creation of prepublication print and digital galleys and managing distribution to reviewers
    • Manage and coordinate award submissions and nominations for front list titles
    • Manage publicity outreach via social media platforms
    • Creation of a weekly roundup of publicity highlights/media placements—which can be shared with the company including sales network (internal and external reps) and international distributors. Responsible for communicating major media placement to distributors.
    • Other projects and tasks as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, in communications or related field preferred
  • 3-4  years relevant work experience
  • Able to work in a fast-pace environment and meet tight deadlines
  • Creative, strategic thinker
  • Passionate and energetic
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities successfully
  • Possess extensive knowledge of the media and marketplace
  • Experience working industry shows and book festivals a plus
  • An ability to generate creative angles and media pitches
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office: Word, Excel required as well as a familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Cision, Mailchimp, and Canva desired
  • Basic graphic design skills and ability to create flyers, posters, postcards, and other collateral a strongly desired

                               Regional Accounts Manager

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Working toward quarterly and annual sales targets by channel, account, region
  • Maintaining existing customers(“house accounts”) by presenting both frontlist and backlist titles as appropriate, conducting account analysis as required, and providing explanations of the current status quo of top 50 house accounts on a quarterly basis
  • Developing new customers in the assigned region, with a goal of expanding the territory dollar volume by a minimum of 5% annually
  • Providing regular feedback on the state of the market, promotions, and outreach as well as the geographic region to the Director and key personnel as required
  • Responding to inquiries from both internal and external contacts within 48 hours
  • Representing the company at trade shows and other events
  • Maintaining full and complete information on accounts and leads in the designated CRM program, including contact information and correspondence
  • Additional duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent and/or sales experience

Preferred Skills

  • Willing to learn about a wide variety of subject areas
  • Strong proficiency in general computer skills and standard CRM programs
  • Proven ability to build and maintain supportive and constructive relationships within and outside of the organization
  • Must be extremely organized an detail-oriented, and have superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with a minimum of day-to-day supervision
  • Must be willing and able to travel, and perform physical aspects of job
  • Must have a home office
