Claire Travers studied art in Montpelier then in Rennes, France, before receiving a master of arts degree. With her passion for miniatures and paint, it was natural for her to turn toward illumination. She’s practiced this ancient art since 2001 in France, first at the Cité de l’Écrit et des Métiers du Livre in Montmorillon, and then in Toulouse. Fascinated by medieval techniques, Travers composes her illuminations with a constant concern for accuracy and exactness, and she works following ancient formulas, mostly those of Theophilus, Dimier, and Cennino Cennini. She likes to take inspiration from ancient works and also creates original patterns, always adhering to traditional methods. Travers regularly exhibits her work and offers illumination courses on her website. www.clairetravers.com
