“Civil War Quilts”

Authors, Pamela Weeks and Don Beld take  a look at Civil War soldiers' quilts & the women who made them.  45 historical Civil War patterns are provided for the reproduction of these quilts and lists all known surviving Civil War Union soldiers' quilts.

Atglen P.A. — Through engaging text you will learn the stories of fourteen extraordinary Civil War Quilts and the women who made them.  The stories told through these rare quilts are stories of love; others relate the determination of the women seeking an active role in the war efforts and some of patriotism and creative abilities of people caring about others.  With historical patterns you and information on making traditional 19th century binding and potholder quilts, you can make your own reproductions of Civil War era Quilts.  Information on reproduction fabrics and how to participate in modern soldier-related community service quilting is also included.  This book is a must read for any serious quilter, historian, or Civil War enthusiast.

Pam Weeks is a quilter, fiber artist, quilt historian, and the curator of the New England Quilt Museum. She presented a research paper at the 2010 annual American Quilt Study Group’s seminar.  She currently lives in New Hampshire with her dog Coco the Wonder Dog. Don Beld was the Founder of the Home of the Brave Quilt Project in 2004. Because of his interest in American history, Don works almost exclusively with 19th century reproduction fabrics and pieced quilt patterns.  Don was the featured artist in the 2007 Road to California Quilt Show in Ontario CA
