Quotes:
Deborah Painter, Film Journalist/Historian, Nature Writer ...Haunted Richmond is a good source of entertainment and chills. Kinney evokes the mood one needs to fully savor a collection of regional ghost stories. She gives you the feeling that you are sitting down on a comfortable sofa as she reads aloud these stories of encounters with haunted homes like rural Haw Branch, where a painting changed from black and white to color due to the team-up of two female spectres, the mysterious lady who haunts the Governor's Mansion in downtown Richmond, and strange but true accounts of the Pocahontas Parkway, where whooping Indians terrify drivers by leaping into the road ahead of their windshield wipers. One wants more when one comes to the end of the book and hopes for a second collection of spooky tales...
Apex Reviews, Terry Hanson: www.myspace.com/apexreviews ...Rather than a trumped-up collection of ghost stories designed to scare the bejesus out of fireside Boy Scout campers, Haunted Richmond is a thorough, informative, well-researched account of real history and its real consequences. Makes for perfect late night reading - just make sure all the windows and doors are locked first.
Futures Mystery Anthologies Magazine ...HAUNTED RICHMOND takes us on a charming journey through many many haunts in this fair city. From the Governor's mansion to Hawes House to Scotchtown and more, Pamela Kinney takes on a tour not unlike the “Haunts of Richmond” tour. She points out points of interest and how they came to be haunted. I enjoyed my jaunt through the haunted halls and learned a few things along the way. The book is an easy, fast read. For a quick diversion into the “other” world, check out HAUNTED RICHMOND, it's a delightful journey into the supernatural real world.
Rambles.Net ...The stories in Kinney's book range from tales of the famous people who have lived and visited in Richmond to stories of prisoners, soldiers and ordinary people caught up in tragic circumstances. Most ghosts, it seems, come back to places where they were wronged or even murdered. The Southern setting adds a dash of intrigue and romance to the notion of ghosties and ghoulies. You can take it all with a grain of salt or simply sit back and enjoy the well organized book that Kinney has put together, full of screams, dreams and things going bump and scrape in the night. I would advise a bit of both.
Richmond.com, Karri Peifer ...In her latest book "Haunted Richmond" Kinney takes readers on a spine-chilling tour of a city that is full of history and, it turns out, hauntings.
From the obvious ghostly spots like Hollywood Cemetery all the way down to a haunted booth in Midlothian's Crab Louie's Seafood Tavern in Sycamore Square, Kinney has uncovered a frightening collection of local attractions and historic sites where the supernatural abounds...If you want to learn more about Richmond's ghosts then check out Kinney's book, "Haunted Richmond." I read it; and I haven't slept a wink since.
And if you're looking to put some more fear into your Halloween then check out Richmond.com's Halloween Guide.
--KeithLatch.com ...Kinney has weaved a work that not only informed and educated me, she did it in such an entertaining and escapist way that I didn't even notice: such is the power of her narrative. Upon reflection, her skill at presenting unbiased facts in such a fashion as to leave the reader's mind open to the possibilities of…what if…is the greatest single accomplishment of Haunted Richmond and the very gifted lady that penned it...
Nights and Weekends (dot com) ...Ms. Kinney brings to life not only the ghostly visitors but also the rich and fascinating history of the people and places involved in each haunting. Even if you scoff at the paranormal, which I don’t, you’ll get caught up in each story, wanting to explore these historic sites for yourself. Rich in detail and atmosphere, Haunted Richmond draws you back in time to linger among the spirits of past history and sometimes past tragedy. This is an enthralling book that’s not to be missed—especially for lovers of the paranormal.
